In his first two years as head coach, Coach Young led his team to the NAIA National Championship and followed that up with a 27 win season. Young concentrates on four priorities during workouts; working with the players' feet, always have a basketball in their hands, work on some type of finish and conditioning. Six warm-up drills are a part of each workout. The first is a jump shot drill that loosens up the players. Pivoting is the key to the next drill that also addresses balance. A third warm-up drill utilizes chairs at mid-floor. Another drill works on dribble moves and hard finishes at the basket. Shooting drills are also a focus for Young in every practice. He demonstrates five intense shooting drills that combine form shooting with footwork and repetition. Another set of drills stresses finishing strong at the basket. Explosion, concentration and conditioning are a part of these excellent finishing drills. Bands are incorporated into several drills to add strength. The 2-minute drill has a goal of 55 made shots.
