With Morgan Wootten, Legendary former Head Coach DeMatha (MD) HS, 2000 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee.
Legendary coaches Morgan Wootten and Joe Gallagher share their insights from 95 combined years of coaching. Coach Gallagher begins with tips from his storied career that cover communication and family involvement. The goals of Coach Wootten's teams were to play hard, play smart, play together and have fun. Perseverance allows teams to stay in the game as the opponent finds a way to lose. Team unity is based on the chemistry you produce on your team because the five best players rarely make up the best team. Defense is a priority for winning basketball. Having a defensive plan, according to Wootten, is mandatory for the coach. This includes handling pressure with set plays to isolate your best scorer. Wootten shares his 12 lessons in leadership, which he learned from John Wooden, and also discusses the importance of pre- and post-game talks and half time talks. Wootten shares how coaching can bring out the best, and the worst, in coaches and discusses his thoughts on how sportsmanship deserves a high place in sports. In addition, Wootten also touches on practice plans and the fast break.
