Sherri Coale: 12 Little Things That Matter (DVD)
With Sherri Coale, University of Oklahoma Head Women's Basketball Coach, 2002 Final Four.
In this insightful DVD, Coale discusses the importance of practice planning, drill consistency, using a positive approach and non-stop communication. By using the "echo technique" Coale's team repeats her instructions during the entire practice, keeping them all on the same page. On the court, the "North Carolina fast break" drill is an important activity in Sooner practices. This single drill requires players to listen, communicate, run, pass, catch, make lay-ups and fill spots on the floor. "Walking the arch" is another small detail that produces big results. This strategy is a technique used by cutters to get open using screens. Instead of using the V-cut, "Walking the arch" helps spacing on the perimeter and gets shooters open. Other techniques demonstrated include the slip screen, blocking out for better rebounding, post player techniques, the "fake a pass to make a pass" and the "X" passing drill, which emphasizes communication, squaring to the ball and making good passes. Offensively, Coale shares five pressure release options that are an important part of their motion offense. 12 Little Things That Matter will challenge your philosophy and give you some valuable nuggets for your program!

Redefining the Term "Athlete"--Using the Five Core Values (DVD)
Too often, the term “athlete” is directed only toward those individuals who have a demonstrably high level of physical abilities. Being an “athlete,” however, involves far more than simply being a person who has specific physical skills. It also involves factors over which coaches have a meaningful degree of control—the character traits exhibited by their athletes. Redefining the Term “Athlete”—Using the Five Core Values examines several of those traits and presents suggestions on what coaches can do to enhance their development. Among the topics covered: respect, pride, sportsmanship, integrity, and servant leadership.

Mike Moran: Maximizing Your Team Potential with "Platooning" (DVD)
Mike Moran from John Carroll University is one of the most successful coaches at the NCAA DIII level. He has won over 200 games at John Carroll over the past 12 seasons. As part of his success, Moran has come up with some innovative ways to win. One of the ideas Moran has had success with is platooning. Platooning uses a five-in, five-out system of substituting players. Anyone can platoon players, but Moran knows how to win with platooning. In a lecture-style format, Coach Moran lays out his philosophy on platooning, why it works for him, and a few of the advantages and disadvantages of his system. He also shows you what offenses and defenses work with platooning, which full-court presses and press breakers to use, and more. Everything you need to start platooning, and winning with it, can be found in this informative DVD!

Bob Huggins: 10 Strategies for Guarding Your Opponent's Best Plays (DVD)
With Bob Huggins, West Virginia University Head Coach; over 600 career wins; former University of Cincinnati Head Coach, '00-'01 National Coach of the Year, Conference USA "Coach of the Decade" (Cincinnati).
A change from a flat triangle theory of defense to an "On Line, Up Line" philosophy has been key to Coach Huggins' defensive productivity. His new philosophy says the offense can throw it over you but not through you, meaning his defenders are directly in the passing lane. This forces the offense to catch the ball further from the basket and out of prime scoring areas. By pushing them out from the basket, passes become longer and more difficult for the offense to make. Ball screens and back screens are two of the games best offensive weapons, and Huggins breaks down his views on how his teams stop each. Core defensive skills are shared in the drills on this DVD; positioning, helping, closing out, pushing the ball out, guarding back cuts, back screens, and down screens are all covered. Excellent defensive instruction from one of the best in the game!
