with Marty Stern, legendary Villanova Track and Cross Country Coach, 5X NCAA Team Championships, 6X NCAA "National Coach of the Year," Coached 145 All-Americans.
In Part 1 of this three-part presentation, Marty Stern shares his weekly routine for training the distance runner. Although much of the training is focused on Tuesdays ("quality day"), Stern lays out recommendations for each day of the week. Stern includes five specific "Tuesday" workouts. He also shares the importance of alternative workouts such as water running and stationary bike training. In Part 2, Coach Stern reviews the different distance events and offers race strategy for the runner and race strategies for coaching the distance events. In Part 3,"Building and Improving Your Team," Stern shares his experience and strategies for recruiting students, marketing and getting publicity for your program, and the importance of a coach's positive influence upon the lives of young people. Stern's plan is simple - but scientific - and has proven to be reliable over years of successful distance performances at both the high school and university level!
