Called the "red defense," the rotation style defensive system may be very beneficial to your program, based on your personnel; you must have a strong middle blocker, two left sides that can cover a lot of court and a middle back that is good at moving to her left. This defense is particularly good when the opponent is attacking the left side. In a practice setting, Gwen Egbert shows all of the slides and adjustments when the ball comes from the left side attacker. A 2 set, or middle attack, creates a different alignment (it is demonstrated). The right side attacker presents yet another alignment and set of adjustments from base set. The best way to teach this defense is from the boxes, allowing the coach to place the ball from different positions at the net. Coach Egbert does an excellent job of detailing the rotation on each different situation. Also included are a number of drills to work each area of this defense.
